Santa Maria della Salute is a Roman Catolic church and minor basilica in Venice. Devastating outbreak of the plague in 1630 killed almost a third of the Venice pupulation. As a votive (offering) for deliverance from the ravaging desease, the church was build and consecrated to Our Lady of Health (or of Deliverance, Italian: Salute). The church is so symbolyc to the Venice history that it's dome became an emblematic of the city.
