Once a modest backpacker inn in Sydney’s CBD, the Old Sydney Hotel has vanished, cleared to make way for the ultra-slim Pencil Tower Hotel. Its green façade, arched windows, and red awning once shaped the street’s character, now replaced by new development. While painting it, unexpected paper resistance created a weathered patina that perfectly echoed the hotel’s fading presence. Embracing these imperfections allowed the artwork to preserve the quiet memory of a building no longer standing.
