Sakana (魚) Often associated with prosperity and wealth in Chinese culture, this artwork paints the shape of a fish with the head, scales, fins and tail shown. Walking around Chinatown recently, I came across a Lunar New Year greeting ‘年年有餘’, which translates to ‘abundance year after year’. I later learnt that the last character ‘餘’ meaning surplus/leftover, is also a homophone with the word ‘fish’ (魚), hence the reason why fish is prepared during this festival.
