What is behind the Pomegranate?

30 x 30 cmWatercolour on CanvasSoldWith its plump rose-coloured exterior, its red juice, an abundance of gleaming ruby-red seeds that burst when the fruit is split open, the pomegranate is a powerful symbol of fertility and female sexuality. It was considered an aphrodisiac and, therefore, often presented at weddings. In this painting, it's devoured by birds that are camouflaging a pair of delicate lotus shoes. It may be hidden away behind closed doors but still exists!
