You seem like a fun person ... I’m kind of new at the Viking re-enactment part of the thing, but when I was with a jousting group, I was their jester. My friend Henrik here in the living Viking Museum is the herald who announces what's going to be happening next. He would say 'it’s this knight and they’re going to do this thing and it’s really hard and really dangerous', but he’d say it in a posh way. At that point I just go about and showing the audience what that might look like, doing a mockup of what it was supposed to look like, while the knights were getting ready. Also just taunting the knights. I had an agreement with one of the knights, so while they were setting up the pillow spearing horse race, I’d lay on top of a pillow and put another similar pillow on my butt and say 'ha, you can’t get this pillow'. And then he’d start riding and he had a big, big, Swedish, very majestic black workhorse. So he’d get a couple of these thundering galloping steps and I’d get cold feet, naturally, then run out of the way and he’d pick the pillow that was underneath me. Really fun! But I got into Viking reenactment living through a series of life events that started with being tired of studying at university so I left to go to what is known in Sweden as folkhögskola, which roughly translates as people’s college. It’s a place where you can do special stuff, practical, like photography and music and others. The one I ended up at had a crafts program, so it was one year of learning everything about cloth, so how to make cloth, how to dye cloth, what to make of cloth. So for the first semester, we learnt how to set up a loom and also how to dye with natural dyes, and spin yarn and also knot and crochet, and do bobbin lace and also felting. The next semester was pattern construction and some costuming history. In my class there were some larpers and they were like 'you’ve got a beard, you seem like a fun person, you should go out larping with us'. So I made myself a set of clothes and we picked up a larp, which was going to be in a forest nearby. Unfortunately it fell through so I fell in with a jousting club where I learnt how to be a jester and now I'm here.
