Kumara (et tu?)44.0 x 32.0 cm, (Framed) Watercolour and gouache on Arches paper
AUD 600 incl. GST
The origins of the NZ kumara (sweet potato), has been traced back to the Hawaiian islands and to south America. I have a Maori/Irish friend. When I first met him in 2003 we talked about growing up in NZ. He mentioned that one of his teachers called him ‘Kumara’ – a racial slur and that was his nickname while he was in that teacher’s class. While it was appalling to hear, I laughed. I have a habit of laughing at terrible stuff. Sorry Sean.
